Māṇḍukya Upaniad

For those with a little more knowledge of Sanskrit, you’re invited to join us in sounding and studying the final verse of the Māṇḍukya Upaniṣad from the Atharva Veda. The Māṇḍukya Upaniṣad is in prose and consists of a mere twelve verses, being the shortest of all the Upaniṣads.

In his foreword to Swāmī Nikhilānanda’s translation of the Māṇḍukya Upaniṣad, V. Subrahmaṇya Iyer notes that Śaṅkara says it contains the quintessence of all of the Upaniṣads.

Swāmī Gambhīrānanda’s translation of the final verse says:

‘The partless Om is Turīya – beyond all conventional dealings, the limit of the negation of the phenomenal world, the auspicious, and the non-dual. Om is thus the Self to be sure. He who knows thus enters the Self through his Self.’
