CODE OF PRACTICE, TERMS & CONDITIONS
ATTENDING ANY COURSE OR EVENT AT THE SCHOOL MEANS YOU AGREE TO THE BELOW TERMS & CONDITIONS, WHICH INCLUDES ABIDING BY THE CODE OF PRACTICE.
TERMS & CONDITIONS
Discrimination means treating someone unfairly or less favorably than another person or group because of a characteristic specified under anti-discrimination or human rights legislation.
Discrimination is against the law. It is unlawful to discriminate against people on the grounds of:
- Disability (physical, intellectual, psychiatric, learning and sensory)
Any student enrolled in a course is expected to behave in an appropriate manner and to show respect for fellow students. Any student who disrupts a class will be asked to leave the course.
CANCELLATIONS AND REFUNDS
REQUEST FOR COURSE FEE REFUND – ALL LEVELS (J-S)
- Full refund if a student cancels their registration before term begins.
- If a student attends 1 - 4 session, then half a term’s fees are refundable (less a $15 admin fee).
- If a student attends 5 or more session during the term, then a full term’s fees are payable.
HOLIDAY LEAVE - J-D LEVELS ONLY (Course No. 1-15)
With prior notice (minimum 4 weeks), a half-term fee refund is available if the student misses 5 consecutive weeks of an 11-week course.
To be eligible, students need to:
- Pay fees (early bird or full-fee);
- Advise the office (email@example.com) 4 weeks in advance outlining their travel dates;
- At the end of term, the student needs to contact the office (firstname.lastname@example.org) to initiate the refund.
CONCESSION & STUDENT FEES
School of Philosophy Inc offers various levels of concession to people who receive an aged pension, a veterans pension, are registered unemployed or are studying full time. In order to receive the discounted rate, students must provide their concession card number or current full time student ID.
All transactions conducted on this site are in Australian Dollars. We accept Visa and Mastercard only. We do not accept Amex.
DEFERRAL OF FEES
DEFERRAL – J-D LEVELS ONLY (Course No. 1 - 15)
- Fees can be deferred (to the next term) if they attended 1 - 4 sessions in total during the term.
- An administration fee of $15 will be charged upon their return.
Refunds, exchanges and replacements:
The School of Practical Philosophy will only offer a refund or exchange of a ticket if an event, talk, dinner or any special occasion is cancelled or rescheduled. The School of Practical Philosophy does not offer refunds or exchanges as a result of a change in your personal circumstances or your inability to attend due to outside circumstances e.g. changes to public transport. Refunds for non-attendance are not provided.
All areas of this site that request personal information including credit card details are protected by a Secure Sockets Layer, SSL. This means that the information that is sent to and from our server is encrypted. If someone was to intercept your information they would not be able to interpret it.
CODE OF PRACTICE
The School of Practical Philosophy’s (SoPP) Code of Practice (Code) provides clear expectations as to acceptable standards of behaviour, and is implemented to ensure the prevention of injury within the premises from which the activities of the SoPP are conducted.
- The Code is to be communicated to all staff, volunteers and students of the SoPP.
- The Code is posted on the SoPP website and will be notified by way of agreement to all students who re-enrol on-line with the SoPP.
- Students who do not enrol on-line are to be sent a copy of the Code by email to acknowledge receipt and acceptance of the Code by return email, to email@example.com
- All students who attend week or weekend study will be reminded of the Code from time to time.
- Staff who are not students are to be given a copy of the Code and are to acknowledge that they have read the Code and agree to abide by the Code.
- In the event of a reportable incident (see Practice 9 (v) below), an incident report is to be completed and submitted to the tutor and/or the level head for further attention (the incident report form is available on the website). The tutor or level head as appropriate is to forward the completed form to Committee@practicalphilosophy.org.au and to also advise the student of the final response to the incident.
- All staff and students of the SoPP have health and safety duties to:
- take reasonable care for their own health and safety;
- take reasonable care to ensure they don’t affect the health and safety of other people, for example, staff, volunteers, students or members of the public they may encounter or be assisting at the SoPP;
- comply as they are reasonably able to, with any reasonable instruction that is given to them by staff and delegates of the SoPP; and
- co-operate with any reasonable policy or procedure that the SoPP has provided to them.
Essentially, what is reasonable care and what is expected of workers, volunteers and students is what a reasonable person would do in the circumstances having regard to their knowledge, their role, their skills and the resources available to them, the information they have, and the consequences to health and safety of a failure to act appropriately in the circumstances.
- All staff, volunteers and students in the SoPP are expected to treat all people with fairness and dignity.
- Students need to be able to join or leave the School easily.
- Every student has the right to freedom of speech and to feel safe to speak openly.
- Every student has the right to receive services of the SoPP without discrimination or victimization.
- Any complaint regarding the SoPP or its staff or delegates is to be treated as confidential, (subject to legal obligations), and to be investigated as a matter of urgency.
- Actions that are considered to be unacceptable behaviour by staff, volunteers and students include:
- Inappropriate conversations or actions of a sexual nature;
- Coarse language;
- Inappropriate touching;
- Recordings without consent;
- Acts of violence;
- Any act of physical or mental abuse, harassment and bullying;
- Discrimination on the basis of education, occupation, race, political or religious belief.
- Actions that are considered to be appropriate by staff, volunteers and students are:
- All interviews, personal counselling, etc. are to be conducted with the option of another person (i.e. observer) being present;
- A child under 16, or a vulnerable person, must be interviewed or counselled in the presence of another adult agreed to by the child/person, preferably a relative;
- An open-door policy, with a line of sight is to be adopted if a child is left alone in a room;
- All staff and volunteers working with children are required to complete and file a Working with Children check before working with children;
- Staff, volunteers and students are to report any behaviour that they suspect does not meet this Code; or where their own health and safety; or the health and safety of another is or is potentially at risk.
