ARE YOU INTERESTED IN VOLUNTEERING AT THE SCHOOL?
As a not for profit, the School relies in large part on the Service from Volunteers. Service uplifts the individual and benefits others. Volunteering is also a chance to meet new people and make new friends.
Your service can be at Mahratta in Wahroonga, Elizabeth Street in the CBD, at home i.e. remotely
Below you will find a list of areas for which the School needs volunteers. We thank you in advance for considering helping. Please review the list then email us at administration@practicalphilosophy.org.au and we can discuss your options.

Firstly, are you a current student? Yes or No
If No, then our current options include:
- Gardening: Arborist, Irrigation Systems, Pests & Diseases, Pruning, Watering, Weeding or sharing your horticultural knowledge with us!
If Yes, then our current options are extensive and include:
- Administration – at Mahratta: Office work and IT support
- Cake & Biscuit Baking – at home and delivery to be arranged
- Digital Marketing – remote: Website, SEO and SEM, Facebook, Campaigns, video and blogs
- Events – at Mahratta and remote: advertising, promotion materials, event coordinator, concierge, ticket collector
- Flower Arranging – at Mahratta: cut flowers from the garden and arrange into vases
- Gardening – at Mahratta. Arborist, Irrigation Systems, Pests & Diseases, Pruning, Watering, Weeding and sharing your horticultural knowledge with us
- Grant Writing - remote: writing and editing skills for our Plain English approach.
- Heritage Conservation - remote: Archives, Interior Design, Architecture & Materials, Conservation Management Plan
- House Maintenance– at Mahratta: Carpentry, Electrical wiring, Handyman, Painting, Plastering or Plumbing
- Home Duties – at Mahratta: cleaning or windows, Manchester care, Polishing metal
- Information Technology & Sound – at Mahratta and remote: Servers and VPN, Security, Audio Visual
- Marketing – at Mahratta and remote: Website images and text, graphic artists, video and printed collateral
- Project Planning – at Mahratta and remote: Construction and Capital Works, Conservation Management
- Tea & Coffee Team – at CBD, Mahratta and Manly: prepare sandwiches, set up tea and coffee, serve refreshments to fellow students.
Additionally, in 2026, we have an urgent need for the qualified construction professionals, trades and materials for upcoming Capital Works to progress our Conservation Management Plan. We will be working together to help us preserve our heritage listed house and garden, Mahratta. Donations of time and materials are welcome and need coordinating.
