Introduction to the Grammar of Pāṇini

This term the group will continue our introduction to the grammar of Pāṇini. The term will begin by revising the material that was covered in the previous term, which was Chapter 1 of the School’s material on the Laghusiddhānta Kaumudī, the ‘light and easy’ version of Pāṇini’s great work.  Students will continue to explore the fascinating world of Pāṇini by learning to recite his sūtras and to apply them to practical areas of grammar.  Later in the term the group will proceed to Chapter 2 which covers the topic of vowel sandhi.

A basic familiarity with Sanskrit is a prerequisite for this course, such as the School’s 9 term introductory course, or equivalent study. As well as some familiarity with Chapter 1 of the Laghusiddhānta Kaumudī.

The sessions will last for one hour and will take place online on Friday mornings at 6.30am. There will be no charge for current students of the School of Practical Philosophy. $100 for non-students.
