THE STUDY OF PLATO (ONLINE)
Socrates, the day before his unsuccessful trial for corrupting the youth and impiety, visits the court to receive an official affidavit. There he meets the teacher, Euthyphro, who is also visiting the court because he wishes to launch an indictment against his own father for the accidental death of a murderous slave.
Euthyphro believes bringing charges against his father is an act of holiness. Socrates is not so sure. Socrates explores as far as Euthyphro is willing to go with the great question, “what is holiness”. They explore the relationship between Holiness and Justice and the reader will come to a much greater understanding of the Whole and the Part relationship.
