Stream 1  (online)

An Introduction to Sanskrit

This stream will provide a general introduction to the Sanskrit language. We will hear a little about the history of Sanskrit study in the west, and how this wonderful language became a core study in the School of Practical Philosophy.

Students will be introduced to the Sanskrit alphabet, and we will study and practise a very simple Sanskrit chant, a famous verse from the great classic The Laws of Manu:

Speak the truth. Speak pleasantly.  Do not speak the truth unpleasantly, and do not speak pleasant untruth. This is the eternal law.

No experience at all is required for this stream, and all study notes will be included in the online Powerpoint presentation via Zoom. The Zoom links will be provided by email after registration, so please enrol early.
